The St. Bees Plan launched in 2004

The St. Bees plan intiative seeks to enourage activities within the village, and was launched in early 2004. This is a fast moving story so the best place to look for details is under the "St. Bees Plan" heading on the Home page of the St. Bees website. The Plan is run by a sub-committee of the Parish Council.

The members state:

"St Bees is a growing village, as can be seen by the new housing developments. It is also a tourist attraction in its own right as well as being the start of the Coast to Coast Walk. But if the village is to retain its present desirability, both to the current residents and prospective ones, as well as to our visitors, any growth and development must be controlled and in keeping with the views of those directly affected. If we, as parishioners, develop a sensible plan for the future which takes into account the wishes of, and stems from the suggestions of, those who live in and visit St Bees, then planning authorities elswhere will have to consider seriously the villagers' wishes."
