Cumberland Morris Men

The Cumberland Morris Men was founded in 1976, when the Carlisle Morris started a series of satellite practices in West Cumbria. Since then the side has danced regularly at venues both within and without Cumbria, and even overseas.

There are strong ties with St. Bees as several of the men live in the parish and one of the two rehearsal venues is in Hodgetts Club (Village Hall).

There are hundreds of different morris dances, coming from many geographical sources in England. The Cumberland Men dance mainly the "Cotswold" tradition, with some Border and Lichfield dances, and a few others from the south of England.

We regularly enjoy dancing in the area from Ravenglass to Allonby and eastwards to Keswick, Hawkshead, Ennerdale and Wasdale

We are always pleased to welcome new members Ring David Day (bagman) 01946 810867 for details of our next practice.
