Boat angling Motor-powered sea anglers will have the same problems as sailing boats, but there is some sea-angling activity and there is at least one village-based fisherman who regularly launches using a tractor. Beach angling St Bees is a popular sea angling venue for beach and rock fishermen. Unfortunately the rag and lug worms are largely depleted. The rocks at the foot of the South Head (Tomlin) are a popular place, but tackle can easily be lost due to the rocky bottom, and lifters are generally used. Off these rocks are the boilers of the wrecked SS Izaro, a haven for conger eels. Some set-lines are used in summer on the beaches. |
