Getting to St Bees

This is probably the most common question I receive - how do I get to St Bees?

Unfortunately it is not quite as easy as the picture implies - landing on St Bees beach, though possibly long enough, is not available! So if coming from overseas, your choices are Manchester, Glasgow, London and two or three other airports. See Air link in the index bar to the left.

Then you have to get to St Bees. In all cases that means a train journey, and there is a choice of routes. From the south it is undoubtedly the most scenic route, as the train passes along the coast. But there are fewer trains. From the north, more trains but the views leave a bit to be desired in many places. See Rail for details of options.

By road is the easiest in many ways - you can pick your own times, but if you are going on the Coast to Coast walk, you need to think what you are going to do with your car. Two or three of the hotels or B&Bs offer parking facilities. If you are just going to tour the area, then a car is almost essential. Public transport is available but it does restrict you considerably. Again, see Car for more details.

Whichever way you come, you will be made most welcome and we hope you will enjoy your stay.
